Back to Mumbai...and back to the movie watching spree again. And this time 2 back-2-back movies.Movie 1 is the bollywood product-in-English offering called 'Being Cyrus'.Being Cyrus is more in the nature of I-dont-know-whether-this-movie-is-going-anywhere, until you reach the end. It has a reasonably big star cast for a not-so-typical Bollywood movie, but no great performances to boot about.Saif Ali khan to start with....no great shakes, strictly ok and restrained as the role might have demanded... Naseruddin Shah is completely wasted (all puns intended...he is shown as a pot-smoking guy with no care in the world) in the movie....Dimple Kapadialooks ravishing for her age, and is marginally better than ok for her role as a scheming seductress..boman irani doesnt exactly steal the show but probably is still better than others...All in all, would recommend it as a strictly 1 time-watch...if not for the mediocre performances, atleast for the fact that its a little less run-of-the-mill.
Movie 2 is the hollywood offering...'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind'. ...which was in the nominations for Oscars a good 1 year back. And i used to think, atleats in Mumbai, we used to get Hollywood movies atleast with only a slight delay, if not at par with the rest of the world. But, I can tell you , its been worth the wait.....The movie deals with the a very weird concept of it being possible to erase a person from ones memory permanently through a medical procedure . And to deal with a storyline as crazy as that, and still come out with a movie that makes u laugh and also to touch achord here and there is absolutely fantastic..and hats-off to the director. The pace of narration is very frenetic at times, and the story does move between thepast and current very rapidly, and sometimes it does becomes a tad bit difficult to hold a grip on the current.....but still its been handled well. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are good....and so it makes for a very nice package to watch out for.....highly recommended by me.
Note: Planning to watch Crash/BrokebackMountain/Syriana ..so do expect some more reviews in the future....u cant escape it.
